VP of Software Engineering (Global - Work From Anywhere in the World)

About the Role

The Vice President of Software Engineering is a transformational leader responsible for shaping CINC’s engineering culture, organization, and systems as we scale into the next era of AI-enabled software delivery.

You will lead a global engineering organization, ensuring the fundamentals of high performance — technical excellence, flow, feedback, stability, and learning — remain at the center as we evolve toward more autonomous, intelligent, and distributed teams.

This role is both strategic and hands-on: close enough to the work to stay grounded in engineering reality (architecture, code, delivery, reliability), yet disciplined enough to zoom out, diagnose systems, shape team topology, and enable people to make better, faster, safer decisions.

You will partner with the CTO and peer executives to transform a high-performing SaaS business into a learning, adaptive organization where every engineer is a leader and craftsman, empowered by clarity, context, and the right conditions for flow.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a global engineering organization to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient SaaS systems serving millions of users.

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, technical design reviews, and high-quality code review standards (not a “paper VP” role).

  • Stay close to delivery: regularly review system health, technical risk, and operational readiness; participate in post-incident reviews and reliability improvements.

  • Embed the foundations for:

  • Fast flow with stability through small batches, trunk-based development, and rapid feedback loops.

  • Technical excellence as foundation through clean architecture, maintainable code, and quality documentation.

  • Psychological safety and learning culture where experimentation, retrospection, and peer review drive progress.

  • Design the system that AI amplifies by strengthening fundamentals such as architecture, automation, observability, and security so AI accelerates productivity without introducing instability.

  • Guide “build vs buy” and platform evolution decisions, including AI-enabled capabilities (e.g., agentic workflows, automation, assistive tooling) where valuable.

  • Shape organizational design around team topologies, aligning structure with architecture, reducing cognitive load, and enabling flow across domains.

  • Support initiatives for a unified developer experience that simplifies toolchains, removes friction, and ensures engineers can focus on delivering value rather than navigating complexity.

  • Mentor and grow engineering leaders who can operate with autonomy, make high-quality decisions, and enable others to do the same.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment with Product, Platform, and Data to balance innovation, reliability, and customer impact.

  • Provide technical leadership and architecture guidance for a modular, evolutionary, and AI-native platform that scales securely and predictably.

  • Measure what matters: deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, mean time to recovery, developer experience, and customer satisfaction to continuously improve both speed and safety.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bilingual proficiency (English & Spanish)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering within enterprise SaaS environments, including significant experience leading engineering teams and senior technical initiatives.

  • Proven ability to scale and mature engineering organizations, balancing strategic clarity with demonstrated hands-on technical depth.

  • Demonstrated excellence in software architecture and system design with a strong grasp of modern SaaS patterns (modular, API-first, cloud-native, secure, and data-driven).

  • Recent, credible technical engagement (e.g., architecture ownership, hands-on debugging, production incident leadership, code/design reviews, prototypes/spikes) in modern stacks.

  • Experience leading large-scale modernization or platform transformation initiatives with measurable business and operational impact.

  • Ability to create clarity, alignment, and trust across cross-functional and globally distributed teams.

  • Strong communication and influence skills, capable of engaging executives, product leaders, and engineers with equal credibility.

  • Track record of developing leaders and high-performing teams, instilling accountability, technical rigor, and a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Fluency in English, with demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a global, multicultural organization.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Hands-on proficiency with backend technologies such as Node.js/Express.js, C+, Typescript, Python, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, and/or MySQL.

  • Experience with AWS services, containerization, and infrastructure automation.

  • Familiarity with C#, ASP.NET MVC, or other enterprise web frameworks.

  • Exposure to AI-enabled development practices (including agentic/automation patterns) and integrating automation into the software lifecycle.

  • Experience in high-growth or private-equity-backed SaaS environments, leading teams through scale and transformation.
