The role
We’re looking for a technically gifted and strategically minded Engineering Team Lead to oversee a new team delivering an exciting new product within Netcraft’s portfolio. This team plays a critical role in the fight against cybercrime, utilising cutting-edge technology to ingest, collate and query new and existing datasets to surface novel information and insights to our clients.
You’ll lead a small but high-impact group of engineers focused on delivering an enterprise-grade production solution capable of operating at scale with high levels availability and reliability. You will be aware of the challenges this problem space and will be able to adapt and innovate to overcome them. Excellent monitoring and observability tooling is key to your approach. You'll also provide technical leadership, foster a culture of excellence, and drive development that keeps us ahead in the cat-and-mouse game against the fraudsters.
You’ll be:
- Leading the effort to continue to productionise, harden and expand the existing service to facilitate client onboarding and excellent service delivery from day one;
- Providing subject matter expertise in managing complex AWS deployments at scale across large datasets, with hands-on experience maintaining monitoring and observability of these systems in production;
- Collaborating with other internal teams, particularly frontend teams, across the Engineering function
to integrate their systems and services into the tool, respecting the principles of clean architecture and API design; - Upholding high engineering standards with a demonstrable commitment to code quality, a test-driven approach and a modern continuous integration/continuous deployment delivery flow;
- Fostering knowledge sharing, technical mentoring, and personal growth within the team;
- Maintaining a balanced focus across greenfield research and development, sustaining engineering, and technical debt reduction;
- Supporting the Director of Engineering and CTO in pay and promotion decisions for members of the team; and
- Significantly contributing to ideation within the team and playing a key part in the long-term road mapping process for the work the team does.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Strong and demonstrable management and supervision skills, and a willingness to expand the scope of those skills and take on a greater level of responsibility;
- Distinguished engineering background with recent hands-on experience in Golang;
- Experience working with AWS in a Kubernetes-based deployment environment;
- Strong communication skills - the ability to distil technical ideas to stakeholders and motivate a team;
- A willingness to continually improve the efficiency of a team, and an interest in optimising the Software Development Life Cycle; and
- An interest in the workings of the wider business and assisting the Director of Engineering in the day-to-day management of a large department within the Engineering function.
Bonus points if you have:
- Hands-on experience working with OpenSearch and/or Postgres within AWS.
- Experience integrating backend APIs with modern frontend web applications.
- Knowledge of Typescript and the JavaScript ecosystem; and
- Experience in the cybercrime arena.
