Overview
The Director of Professional Services - Enterprise Projects is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of an enterprise-level project portfolio in the role of sponsor and leading a team of Engagement Managers (EMs). This role ensures the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional initiatives by providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and executive-level client engagement. The Director is accountable for driving excellence in project execution, client satisfaction, financial performance, and continuous improvement across the engagement practice. This position also selects, develops, and evaluates colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Ensures EMs are effectively managing, driving, and governing projects through all lifecycle phases: scoping, design, delivery, testing, go-live, and post-implementation care.
- Oversees and enforces adherence to project management methodologies, standards, and best practices across all engagements.
- Reviews and validates executive-level reporting, including risk assessments, financial performance, and project health metrics.
- Drives resolution of systemic delivery challenges and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
- Serves as the point of escalation for product, environment/infrastructure, and development items relating to the projects within their portfolio.
- Manages and resolves conflicts amongst team members and escalates to senior leadership as needed.
- Acts as a senior point of contact for key clients and executive stakeholders.
- Supports EMs in managing client relationships, navigating escalations, consulting on best practices, and delivering strategic value.
- Participates in Executive Steering Committees (ESCs) and ensures alignment between client expectations and delivery capabilities.
- Oversees resource planning and allocation across the assigned portfolio, in collaboration with other functional leaders, ensuring optimal staffing for project success and efficiency.
- Monitors project financials, ensuring profitability and adherence to contractual deliverables.
- Approves investment decisions within defined thresholds and support EMs in managing budgets and scope changes.
- Partners with Sales and Account Management to identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing accounts.
- Reviews and approves implementation estimates, staffing plans, and project footprints.
- Contributes to strategic planning and growth initiatives for the professional services organization.
- Leads initiatives to evolve the Engagement Management practice, including process improvements, tools, and training.
- Champions innovation and drives adoption of standards and best practices across the delivery organization.
- Performs team member review, evaluation, and compensation processes.
- Manages team, directly and indirectly, with the goal of enhancing professional development and personal growth.
- Identifies, provides, and coordinates additional training opportunities for team members.
- Acts as a mentor to less experienced Origami team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field.
- Advanced degree or PMP certification is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise project delivery, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale, cross-functional projects and teams.
- Strong client-facing experience with executive-level communication and negotiation skills.
- Deep understanding of project management methodologies, resource planning, and financial oversight.
- Experience in SaaS, cloud-based platforms, or enterprise software implementations preferred.
- Insurance industry experience preferred.
