What are we looking for?
The Functional Architect is a domain expert responsible for managing the day-to-day operational needs of VBA clients following implementation, including Zendesk ticket support, client meetings, ongoing training, and platform guidance. Functional Architects serve as trusted advisors to clients by helping them successfully operate, maintain, and expand their use of the VBA platform. This includes addressing operational questions, guiding clients on platform functionality and workflows, and providing ongoing support to ensure clients are using the system effectively.
In addition to client operations, Functional Architects develop deep expertise within specific areas of the VBA platform through VBA’s functional domain expertise model. This model allows employees to build specialized knowledge in key platform areas while contributing that expertise across teams. Functional Architects collaborate closely with Implementation Architects, Data Integration Analysts, Product teams, and client stakeholders to ensure that client environments remain stable, scalable, and aligned with best practices. Their domain expertise also helps support product feedback, internal knowledge sharing, and cross-team collaboration across the organization.
Why This Role Matters
The Functional Architect role plays a critical part in ensuring the long-term success of VBA clients after implementation. By managing the day-to-day operational needs of clients — including Zendesk support, client meetings, ongoing training, and system guidance — Functional Architects help ensure that clients continue to operate successfully and expand their use of the VBA platform.
At the same time, the Functional Architect model creates a structured approach to developing deep platform expertise across defined functional domains.
By expanding their expertise across functional domains over time, Functional Architects strengthen both their own professional development and the overall capabilities of the VBA team.
At VBA we believe: Personal Growth = Team Growth
As employees deepen their knowledge of the platform, the entire organization becomes stronger, more collaborative, and better equipped to support our clients.
